European Language Portfolio

The European Language Portfolio is a system that records individuals' language skills, competencies and experiences. It also includes informal intercultural experiences and lifelong language learning.

The system developed by the Council of Europe helps individuals measure their language proficiency by documenting language learning. This portfolio includes, together with the language passport, language learning history, personal information and informal cultural experiences acquired.

Advantages of the European Language Portfolio (ADP):

  • ADP helps individuals document and present their language proficiency in a systematic way. This is especially useful in job search processes.
  • Trainees can monitor the development of their language skills and their learning processes, which increases their motivation.
  • Since the ADP is a widely accepted system in Europe, it is recognized by educational institutions and employers in different countries.
  • The portfolio helps understand the social and cultural context of the language by ensuring that cultural experiences are transferred along with language learning.
  • The ADP allows individuals to develop their language disciplines and skills, which contributes to their overall personal development.

Being integrated with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) standardizes language proficiency, facilitating comparisons between different education systems.

The Portfolio provides trainees with more resources and information about learning opportunities, which allows individuals to customize their own learning process.
The European Language Portfolio provides an important advantage in both education and business, making individuals’ language learning more effective and concrete.
